Parents Share What Makes ISR Special

This week, our amazing parents on Facebook shared what makes ISR Self-Rescue™ skills important for their families. Our team was excited to also read about how our program has prepared children to be safe when having fun with their families around the water. Whether your decision to enroll your child in ISR Self-Rescue™ lessons is focused on preventing drowning or you are looking forward to watching your child paddle surf and kayak on the Great Lakes (sounds fun, Gerald!), our method has proven effective in providing children with a safe introduction to the water.

ISR Certified Instructors teach parents about taking a multi-layered approach to water safety. As Tiffany mentioned in her Facebook comment, parents can’t be everywhere at once, so it is important to learn about safeguards that enhance your efforts to supervise children around the water. We recommend parents learn our 5 Important Keys to Water Safety, which include:

1. Effective Supervision

The most critical line of defense is adult supervision. No level of aquatic skill can replace active supervision. If your child is ever missing, look in the water first.

2. Pool Fences

Install a permanent 4-sided fence with self-locking gates. Ensure that the pool fence is at least 3-5 feet from the pool edge.

3. Alarms

Make sure all doors and windows leading to the pool are locked and alarmed.

4. Survival Swimming Lessons

A moment's inattention does not have to cost a child his life. ISR's Self-Rescue™ training is an added layer of protection, teaching your child water survival skills in a completely safe environment.

5. CPR

If an emergency happens, it is essential parents and families are prepared. Learn to perform CPR on children and adults and remember to update those skills regularly.

In addition, our Family Aquatic Safety Checklists offer safety tips that are easy to remember when parents spend time with children at pools, boating, relaxing at the beach, or fishing with grandpa like ISR parent Nikki’s family often enjoys.

Educating the whole family about water safety makes ISR Self-Rescue™ lessons most effective. As Jennifer mentioned in her Facebook comment, ISR helps the whole family stay safe around the water.
